In 1999, Dodge asked Ray Evernham to lead their return to NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing after a 20-year absence. Within two short years, Evernham Motorsports helped bring the storied manufacturer back into a sport they had once dominated. For the 2004 season, Kasey Kahne replaced Bill Elliott in Evernham's No.9 Dodge and recorded five second-place finishes in quest of the Raybestos Rookie of the Year award.
