Historic Kinnick Stadium is named after 1939 Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick. With a capacity of 70,585, Kinnick Stadium ranks as one of the 20 largest college-owned stadiums in the nation. The Hawkeyes compete in the Big Ten Conference and rank among the top 25 schools in the nation in home attendance. Founded in 1847 in Iowa City, Iowa, as the state's first public institution of higher learning, enrollment now tops 29,900, and several UI programs rank among the nations best.
