White Shoal 96

This photograph is taken of White Shoal Lighthouse by Brad Cavanaugh. This lighthouse, arguably has one of the most interesting paint jobs on the Great Lakes. The red and white spiral stripe reminds us of the old time barber shops. Located approximately 20 miles east of Mackinac Point and 2.6 miles northwest of Waugoshance Island, the shallows around White Shoal had long presented a hazard for vessels entering the Straits from the either the North Shore or the Manitou Passage. The lighthouse was finished after a few years of difficult construction in 1910.
