Soldier Field Blend 250b

Soldier Field was built in 1924 as a public, multipurpose sports venue, and was originally named Municipal Grant Park Stadium. Soon thereafter, its name was changed to honor American military personnel that fought in World War I. This photograph is a combination of two photographs blended together. Back in 1949, the Hurricane Racing Association held stock car races inside Soldier Field. This early photo was taken by Tom Cavanaugh when he was sixteen years old. His son Brad Cavanaugh took the more recent photograph in the new stadium, from the same exact position his father had taken so many years ago.
